Class Session: Tuesdays, March 3, 10, 17, 24 - 10:30am-1pm
Everyone loves one of those "you can wear it with anything" tops in their closet. Why not make your very own?
The Donny is a boxy-pull on top that is designed to be a workhorse in your wardrobe. It's a dartless top with a lapel collar and patch pocket. It's a great everyday top that can be worn with practically anything - keep it casual by pairing it with your favorite jeans, or dress it up a bit and match it with your favorite flowy skirt.
During this 4-week class, students will learn how to create a collar, use the "burrito method", make a facing and make a patch pocket as they sew this garment from start to finish with just a yard or two of fabric (depending on size). This class is suitable for confident beginner to intermediate students who are looking for their next garment project to tackle. Graduates of our Garment 101 class are encouraged to register to advance their garment sewing skills.
Required Materials:
- (1) Pattern: Donny Shirt by Friday Pattern Company
- 1/2 yard of Pellon 911FF fusible interfacing
- (1) pack of Microtex needles
- (1) spool of coordinating thread
- 1 to 2 yards of woven fabric - specific yardage is dependent on size of shirt being made; please refer to the pattern for accurate sizing and yardage measurements
- If you plan on lengthening or pattern matching, add an additional 1/2 to 5/8 yard of fabric. Our shop sample is a Medium and we lengthened it by 2 inches.
Recommended Fabrics:
- Donny is designed for woven fabrics, such as cotton or linen. However, if you prefer more of a drapey look, choose fabrics like rayon or cotton lawn.
- This top would look great in Anna Maria's 'Narrative Woven' fabric or Anna Maria's Garden Variety Woven' fabric.
Fabric Notes:
- Fabric MUST be purchased from our shop. Our staff is more than happy to help you with your selections!
- As with all garment classes, we recommend students PRE-WASH and dry their fabric prior to the beginning of class to prevent any further fabric shrinkage.
Yardage:
- Yardage is dependent on the size of shirt being made; please refer to the pattern for accurate sizing information. The pattern accommodates sizes XS-7X.
