Description

Skill Level: Confident Beginner to Intermediate | Instructor: Nancy Plominski

Defying all the laws of sewing, this comfy quilt is made with the seams exposed which are then "ragged" up to create this fabulous, cozy effect. This quilt is pure fun and is great for gifting because of how quickly it sews up.  It uses the Quilt-As-You-Go method and has no binding, so once your patchwork pieces are assembled, you're done!

Students can choose to make either the crib size (42"x49) or the throw size (56"x63") quilt. During the first class, students will cut their fabrics and batting and begin constructing/piecing, leaving the second class for constructing completion and assembly of the quilt.

This class is suitable for confident beginners (anyone who has taken our Sewing 101 class or has similar beginner level experience).   Students must be able to confidently operate a sewing machine independently.

Required Materials (Crib Size 42" x 49"):

  • (1) Pattern: The Weekend Rag Quilt by Studio M Squared
  • quilt top fabric: (5) 1/2 yds each of quilting cotton
  • quilt back fabric: 2-1/8 yds of quilting cotton or flannel*
  • batting: 7/8 yds of 90" wide batting
  • (1) spool of coordinating thread

Required Materials (Throw Size (56"x63"):

  • (1) Pattern: The Weekend Rag Quilt by Studio M Squared
  • quilt top fabric: (5) 3/4 yds of quilting cotton
  • quilt back fabric: 3 yds of quilting cotton or flannel
  • batting: 1-1/4 yds of 90" wide batting
  • (1) spool of coordinating thread

Recommended Fabric:

  • We recommend using quilting cotton or flannel for this quilt. Please note, flannel does fray more than cotton, so your choice in fabric will depend on how much fraying you're going for.  A great strategy is to use quilting cotton for the top fabrics and flannel for the quilt back fabric.
