Skill Level: Advanced Beginner to Intermediate

Lightweight and minimalistic, this beginner-friendly bag is a practical companion to take to school, sports, the gym, flea markets, and even as a carry-on. During this 2-week series, students will learn how to make cording drawstring, install a zipper, and install grommets. Students will have the opportunity to use the Prym Vario Creative Tool when installing the grommets. This class is suitable for advanced beginner to intermediate level students who can confidently thread and operate a sewing machine independently.

Finished Bag Dimensions: 14-1/2" wide x 16" high

Required Materials:

• (1) Project Kit: Burkett Drawstring Bag - kit includes pattern, fabric, interfacing, zipper, grommets and thread

Alternatively, if you do not wish to purchase a Project Kit, you will need:

• (1) Pattern: Burkett by Sallie Tomato
• 3/8 yard main fabric
• 1/3 yard contrast fabric (bottom of the bag)
• 5/8 yard lining fabric
• 1/3 yard for strap fabric (note that the pattern calls for premade bias tape for straps, we will be making our own fabric straps)
• 3/4 yard of Pellon SF101 or 911F - only if you are using quilting cotton for your main fabric - if using canvas or heavier fabric, interfacing is not required
• (2) 1/2" grommets - provided for you in class
• (1) 22" zipper
• (1) spool of coordinating thread

Recommended Fabrics:

• We recommend using canvas, duck canvas, or coated cotton for the main fabric, faux leather, cork, or canvas for the contrast fabric, and quilting cotton for the  lining and strap fabrics.
