Description
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner to Intermediate
Class Dates:
- Daytime Session: Tuesday, November 17 - 10:30am-1pm
- Evening Session: Wednesday, November 18 - 6:30pm-9pm
Create this whimsical, scrappy improv tree that you can raw-edge applique onto a garment or any background fabric. This project is made by cutting strips of fabric and layering them on a foundation fabric. The raw edges of the fabric are exposed, creating a fringed effect when washed and dried. And, it's totally improv-friendly — wonky lines and varying widths are encouraged! The scrappier you make it, the cuter it gets.
Plus, this finished applique looks even better with added decorative stitches - if desired, bring a few spools of machine embroidery thread in colors that coordinate with your fabrics!
In this class, students will learn the technique used, work on their tree, and time permitting, applique the finished tree to a garment or background fabric (for making a pillow). Bring a crewneck or other garment with you, or a piece of fabric at least 16" x 16" square.
This class is suitable for confident beginner level students who have taken our Sewing101 class or have an equivalent experience level. Students must be able to confidently thread and operate a sewing machine independently.
