Description
Skill Level: Beginner
Interested in learning how to sew but not sure where to start? Join us for our Sewing 101 class - an intro level class where you will learn all the basics of the timeless craft of sewing!
To start off class, you will learn how to operate the sewing machine. We use Janome Sewist 740DC machines in our classroom - a great machine built for beginners and experienced sewists alike! During the first portion of the class, your instructor will demonstrate how to operate the sewing machine, how to wind a bobbin, and how to thread the machine. After you've prepared your machine correctly, you will test your sewing skills on small samples of fabric to familiarize yourself with stitching, the foot pedal and different speeds the machine offers. You will also learn common terminology and techniques, including practicing seam allowance, backstitching, cutting, pinning, and how to rip seams if needed. Finally, you will put your new skills to use and make your very own lined drawstring bag. After completing this intro course, you will walk away with the confidence to continue your sewing journey!
